There’s a myriad of ways to prepare for the holiday season. Baking treats that appear on the table only once a year. Writing out the gift list. Putting up a tree or even, this year, finding a fresh, live one. Wrapping presents. Lighting the menorah. Attending a service on Christmas Eve. Preparing the Kwanzaa feast. Sighing in exhaustion!

We at Huron Waves have our own December custom…a 60-minute video that captures the season’s music, welcomes familiar talents and introduces new ones at County locations where holiday celebrations take place.

Over the past weekend, after weeks of planning, rehearsing, filming, scripting and editing, with the help of the good folks at FauxPop Media in Goderich our 2022 program finally took shape.

Music Makes the Season Bright is ready for its official release tomorrow, at 7pm, Tuesday, December 20…just when we all can welcome an hour of beautiful seasonal music to calm our nerves, to relieve the pressures that Christmas usually brings.

You’ll find the program on our Huron Waves website, on YouTube, via social media links and on the five regional cable networks which will run the program, each on its own schedule, throughout the holiday period.

Filmed at locations in Goderich, Seaforth and Wingham and hosted by volunteer members from the Huron Waves Board of Directors, for the first time the program includes a flashback to a very popular segment from a past holiday video as well as an opportunity for everyone to sing along, literally to follow the bouncing snowflake, as a brass ensemble leads us in songs of the season.

Music Makes the Season Bright is our festival’s way of saying Thank You through music…to our patrons and supporters, to everyone who attended our concerts and events during last June’s festival, to all of you who have followed our progress through my monthly newsletters, and to our corporate and government backers like Ontario’s provincial government whose funding makes this video possible.

Music Makes the Season Bright is also, we hope, a way of making new friends, and of keeping Huron Waves actively in everyone’s thoughts, especially as we plan a unique experience that will be at the heart of our 2023 Spring presentations.

Amidst all that happens in your Gaia over the next few weeks, I hope you’ll have time to enjoy this musical gift from Huron Waves. Here are two direct links to the program; it goes live tomorrow, Tuesday, at 7pm:

Till we’re together again next year … remember that Music Connects Us.
