Looking for a fun and meaningful way to celebrate Pride Month?
Huron Waves presents the Queer Songbook Orchestra on June 16

Are you looking for a fabulous concert plus a perfect way to celebrate Pride Month in Huron County? Huron Waves Music Festival presents the Queer Songbook Orchestra for one night only on Thursday, June 16 in St. Joseph.

Dubbed “Sensational…a superb pop ensemble” by NOW Magazine, the Queer Songbook Orchestra (QSO) is a 13-piece professional chamber pop ensemble which dedicates itself to utilizing story and song to express, honour, and elevate LGBTQ2S+ experiences. QSO comes to Huron Waves both to play a great concert and to foster dialogue towards a just, equitable and accessible society, with inclusiveness and acceptance for every Canadian in this 21st century.

“Huron Waves is extremely excited and proud to present the Queer Songbook Orchestra. We have been asked specifically to pursue programming that resonates with groups in Huron County that feel under-represented, such as the queer community. Not to mention, they are superb musicians, and a heck of a lot of fun!” said John Miller, Artistic Director of Huron Waves.

Founded in 2014 by Artistic Director Shaun Brodie, the QSO has toured extensively throughout Canada and worked with 200+ collaborators to bring 2SLGBTQ+ experience to centre stage. They have been featured at many of the country’s top performing arts festivals, and in 2018 undertook a nationwide tour which saw them perform in small to mid-sized cities from Whitehorse, YK, to St. John’s, N.L. Among the extensive list of past collaborators of the QSO are Carole Pope, Cris Derksen, James Baley, Orville Peck, Beverly Glenn Copeland, Jeremy Dutcher, Francesca Ekwuyasi, Rae Spoon, Syrus Marcus Ware, Casey Mecija, Lorraine Segato, Allie X, Wayson Choy, Mark Tewksbury, Vivek Shraya, Leah Fay, Mary Margaret O’Hara, Gary Beals and many, many more musicians, writers, theatre artists, high school students, elders and other members and allies of the community.

The QSO will perform on Thursday, June 16th, 2022 at 7:30 pm at the Coach House at Hessenland Inn and Schatz Winery in St. Joseph at 72981 Ontario 21, Zurich, ON N0M 2T0.  Tickets are available at www.huronwavesmusicfestival.ca.
